It’s not what you know, but who you know

Building lasting relationships amongst young professionals in the arts

In an environment dominated by senior, seasoned professionals, Young People in the Arts is bringing together a network of newcomers.

“YPIA is not only about allowing junior professionals in different areas of the music industry to improve their own standing. It is also about catalysing a return to traditional value of face to face dialogue and personal communication, values that have been somewhat diminished by the onset of the digital era”. Classical Music Magazine

Founded in May 2008 by Nicki Wenham, Lis Lomas and Andreas Flohr, YPIA’s story is one of rapid success – their aim to connect young professionals has struck a chord with their members, which now total over 600.

September 25, 2009 sees Young People in the Arts launch a season of events, including panel debates, concert talks, networking evenings and collaborations with the Association of British Orchestras, Wigmore Hall, Limelight at the 100 Club and the Roundhouse.

With the growth of their events season also comes a development of the mission of YPIA. Co-founder Nicki Wenham, envisages a platform to nurture and develop new talent, starting with a function supported by philanthropist Vernon Ellis.
